Musculoskeletal Pain
Neck pain and injury is an extremely common complaint we see at our pain clinics in Birmingham, Solihull and Warwickshire, but fortunately can be treated quick and easy with the correct treatment and advice. Our very experienced clinicians have been treating neck pain and injury for over 15 years and have gained an excellent reputation in this very common problem. It is our primary objective to reduce pain, promote recovery, improve function and to prevention issues coming back.
Common causes of neck pain
Neck pain is very common and is often due to trauma, poor posture or overuse. More cases often present with a dull ache that can due to many different factors. Other causes involve accidents/trauma, instability and degenerative changes. Neck pain can often lead to increased pain, weakness, and can also present with referred pain in to the arm or altered sensation in to the hand. It is very important to get treated soon to speed up recovery and reduce progressive degenerative changes of the joints of the spine. To successfully treat neck pain, we are looking specifically at predisposing factors that may have contributed to the injury in the first place.

NECK PAIN TREATMENT
Neck pain and injury treatment will always depend on the severity of the problem. Neck pain can often be managed conservatively with appropriate osteopathy, physiotherapy and the correct advice. The neck heavily relies on good posture, strength and stability. Certain stubborn cases may respond well to injection therapies, like cortisone or PRP therapy, to reduce inflammation or speed up repair and healing.

Neck pain and injury can range in severity. Ultimately, the aim is to reduce pain and speed up recovery. At the Dynamic Clinic, our neck pain clinics in Birmingham, Solihull and Warwickshire see neck injuries very commonly. We always relay to every patient the importance of getting to correct advice and treatment to avoid further complications.

In the majority of cases, we like to enforce conservative treatment and management of mild to moderate injuries, but in certain cases, extra resources are needed. If patients are showing signs of advanced injury, then we may discuss the option for an MRI scanning, to get diagnostic clarity of the severity and to see if surgical intervention may be required.

If we can see that there is no neurological deficit and the condition is quite responding to physiotherapy, then we may recommend the use of local injection therapy, which is can be used to reduce inflammation of damaged tissues.
Specialist Imaging referral or Private MRI Scans
At the Dynamic Clinic, we can provide ultrasound imaging to look for signs of local tissue damage and inflammation. However, the neck knee joint can require a more in-depth analysis using an MRI. If a private MRI scan is considered, we will put in a local referral to our Imaging Centre in Solihull. You will then be booked in within 5-10 days. Following your scan, the report will be completed by our colleague Dr David Beale (Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist). This report will then come back to the Dynamic Clinic and will we then discuss with you the best course of treatment for your complaint.
In cases where the injury is severe or there may be neurological compromise, then we may refer to our trusted colleagues Mr Spencer Harland (Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon) for surgical opinion on repair or removal.
Neck Pain and Injury Assessment
To help with your issue, firstly need to provide a basic functional assessment to check for severity. If you have been suffering with a neck issue that has not been improving or is impacting on your function, it is recommended to see a musculoskeletal professional. Here, they will carry out an assessment, gain information to make a diagnosis and provide the best treatment and management strategies to treat the neck pain and get you back to best function again. At the Dynamic Clinic, neck pain and injury is one of the most common issues we see many times every day. Our experienced musculoskeletal clinician, Mr Adam Whatley, will be able to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions from sport injuries to osteoarthritis.
