What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a very popular biological treatment used in many medical procedures, and its safety is well established along with results. Previous examples include wound healing, during joint surgery, cosmetic procedures, orthopaedic procedures etc.
PRP therapy is used for many different things, and we provide many different bits of information, on a weekly basis but this article will just be focused around skin. PRP injection treatment within hair loss or pain and injury treatment can be found here. Specific to the area of skin rejuvenation, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy involves a tiny injection of the patient’s own platelets for the cosmetic aesthetic treatment of wrinkles or scars in the face, hands, and neck, clinically useful skin rejuvenations. Known to some as the ‘vampire facelift or facial’ this procedure is much less invasive than plastic surgery, takes about 20 minutes to carry out, and offers improvements for up to 18 months.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: Skin rejuvenation using your own cells.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains platelets which work in the body to facilitate a repair and healing process. Platelets have many growth factors on the surface which release stem cells and stimulate collagen production when injected into the skin. PRP has been used in aesthetics and for facial rejuvenation since 2006 in the UK, Europe, Japan, and Australia.

How many treatments are advised?
For the best result, it is recommended to have up to three treatments, 4 weeks apart, with top ups at 6-24 months.
What results can I expect from PRP treatments?
Improvement of skin texture and tone are noticeable within a couple of weeks. Full collagen regeneration takes up to three months. PRP treatments can be used on all skin types and colours.
What happens during skin rejuvenation treatment with PRP?
Here at Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, we will assess the degree of skin aging, perform a simple skin analysis, and recommend a sensible treatment with reasonable outcome. Pre-treatment photographs may be taken.
Your skin is cleansed and prepared. Local anesthetic cream is applied. Blood is taken from your arm and placed in a PRP tube which is then centrifuged.
The Platelet Rich Plasma is then prepared and activated. It is then initially injected into any obvious lines or wrinkles. The remainder of the plasma is then injected all over the rest of the skin area to be treated.
PRP facial rejuvenation can be a one-off treatment, but further micro-injections can be re-performed at 4-6 weekly intervals for lines and wrinkles if the client desires this. Flexible treatment programs may can be available.
Are there any side effects with PRP facial rejuvenation treatment?
Minor: Expect mild swelling and redness for the first couple of 3-12 hours. Bruises or generally quite uncommon, but can happen around the delicate skin of the eyes. Bruises may be visible for a couple of days.
What should I expect of PRP Treatment?
Results are generally visible at three weeks and improve gradually over ensuing months with improvement in texture and tone as collagen production is stimulated. Skin care therapies can enhance the results.
Advanced wrinkling is much more difficult to be reversed and a minimal improvement is predictable in persons with a heavy drug, alcohol and tobacco usage. Severe scarring may also be difficult to respond. Further plasma treatment is also popular and safe.
Will I notice result straightaway?
Not immediately. However, you will notice much more volume initially. Over a few weeks the platelets will stimulate the growth factors which will assist in more collagen growth.
How many PRP treatments are required?
This will depend upon the health and age of your skin. Normally it is advised to have up to 3 treatments, 4 weeks apart. However, your clinician will determine your best treatment protocol according to your skin condition.
How long do results last?
Treatment results vary, however, in most patients the results last up to 18 months. Touch-up treatments will maintain the results.
Is PRP treatment safe?
Yes, because we are using your own blood.
