Updated: Mar 28

Use of Activated Platelet Rich Plasma (A-PRP) on Alopecia: A Systematic Review and Meta-analyses. March 2023.

Hair loss is a very common and difficult to treat condition, caused by genetic, physiological, environmental, and immunologic factors. The current treatment for alopecia is limited. This March 2023 review and analysis evaluates activated platelet rich plasma (A-PRP) for the treatment of alopecia.

This review looks at clinical efficacy and safety of autologous activated PRP injection treatment for alopecia patients. Looking specifically at safety, limitations, and effectiveness. 29 study articles were included, with a total of 864 patients. The study found that 27 studies indicated that A-PRP is significantly effective in treating alopecia, especially for improving hair density before and after treatment. This along with hair density, hair counts, promoting hair regrowth, folliculogenesis, reducing hair loss, and initiating the hair cycle. Two studies reported moderate results.

To conclude, A-PRP is a promising, safe and effective method for treating alopecia.
