Advanced Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection Treatment with Dynamic Regenerative Medicine: MUSCULOSKELETAL PRACTICE

Here at Dynamic Regenerative Medicine in Birmingham and Warwickshire we have been providing the popular service of platelet rich plasma (prp) injection treatment to our patients for a wide variety of conditions and complaints for over several years, and are continuing to see fantastic success.

PRP is a safe and long-lasting treatment natural treatment growing in vast popularity. PRP treatment can be used to help manage a wide range of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions affecting joints and soft tissues, such as osteoarthritis and tendinopathy. PRP works by utilising the body’s own natural healing processes, by facilitating repair and healing of damaged tissues.

PRP now has a growing body of high quality research evidence, both scientific and clinical. PRP clinical research is fastly growing with double-blind randomised controlled trials supporting its safety and effectiveness in the treatment of many conditions such as degenerative cartilage disease and chronic tendinitis (golfers/tennis elbow). PRP is a natural and safe treatment, with long-lasting benefits in many cases. It is also shown to be beneficial over corticosteroid injections and other forms of therapy beyond 12 months post treatment.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Within our blood there are specialise cells called platelets which have the ability to release growth factors that can be responsible for healing and repair. PRP processing simply allows us to gain a high concentration of platelets within a small sample of platelets for clinical use. This can then be used for reducing inflammation and stimulating a repair process, whilst being safe and having minimal side-effects.

Why PRP Injection Treatment?

A natural, safe biological treatment that has be shown to help and assist with the healing and regenerative process of joint and soft tissue issues, which is something we are challenged with everyday by our patients here at Dynamic Regenerative Medicine. The beauty with PRP is that it can also have the ability to preserve tissue health and delay surgical intervention.

PRP injections have also been shown to be effective over 18 months, providing many patients pain relief and improved function, allowing continuation of with exercise, rehabilitation and quality of life.

What happens at my appointment?

  • Following a consultation and assessment a small amount of blood is taken from the patient - 20-40ml.

  • The blood is then processed via a centrifuge, allowing for separation of cells required for treatment.

  • The PRP is the taken and then injected into the area in need of treatment.

Are there any side effects to PRP treatment?

PRP injections are very safe and very well tolerated, with with very limited side-effects. Mild discomfort can be felt in the treatment area a few hours after treatment. Apart from mild discomfort, and the treatment is very well tolerated. 15% of cases, patients can experience stiffness and mild discomfort that can last for a couple of days following on from treatment. In less than 5% of cases, if the patient suffers a mild reaction, it can be stiff and sore for a couple of weeks. Worst case side-effect, as for any treatment is infection or nerve damage, but fortunately this is very uncommon. It is recommended to avoid anti-inflammatory medication for one week before and four weeks after PRP injection as these can reduce PRP effectiveness.
