Back Pain Treatment and Spinal Injections Birmingham & Solihull

Back pain treatment and spinal injections Birmingham and Solihull

Here at Dynamic Regenerative Medicine in Birmingham we are for a multitude range of treatments for back pain for our patients. It is of the greatest importance to us that we aim to get our patients out of pain and back to daily living. We aim to reduce pain and promote functional capacity.

We have a dedicated specialist team that offers many different treatments including:

  • osteopathy

  • physical therapy

  • rehabilitation

  • spinal manipulation

  • spinal injections

It is extremely important that the majority of performed treatment for lower back pain is initially managed conservatively via the above methods. In uncommon cases or cases that have not responded to conservative measures, spinal injections may be considered in efforts to reduce pain and facilitate repair in functional recovery.

Our spinal injection services for the treatment of low back pain range from:

  • epidural injections

  • facet joint injections

  • intradiscal injections

  • platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections

  • prolotherapy

In more advanced and extreme cases, where pain is progressing or there is neurological impairment due to nerve root compression further specialist treatment may be considered.

Further services in spinal denervation is carried out by our close specialist colleague Dr Abir Doger (Pain Management Consultant Anaesthetist).

Further services in spinal decompression surgery is carried out by our close specialist colleague Mr Spencer Harland (Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon).

Epidural Injections

An epidural injection contains a steroid and local anaesthetic. This medicine is injected into a space called the epidural space, which surrounds your spinal cord. The steroid is used to reduce inflammation around your nerves and spinal cord, while the local anaesthetic provides faster pain relief.

Epidural injections can be used for the treatment of sciatica (nerve pain). This is pain that spreads from your lower back down your legs, caused by a trapped nerve in your spine. This is often a result of a disc herniation. Some examples below:

  • A slipped disc (herniated disc). This is when one of the discs between your vertebrae bulges out of your spine, sometimes pressing on surrounding nerves.

  • Spinal stenosis. This is when the space around your spinal cord narrows, putting pressure on your spinal cord.

  • Spondylolisthesis. This is when one of your vertebrae moves out of position.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Is favourable biological treatment used to stimulate repair and healing. In comparison to corticosteroid, studies are emerging to show that PRP treatment is providing prolonged long-term benefits over corticosteroid, with less side effects.
