HAIR TRANSPLANT OR PRP

Thinning hair is a problem that many men and women face as we age. So what treatments are available to combat this?

Hair transplants are probably the most well-known solution for hair loss and can offer good results, however, not all people want invasive, costly surgery. PRP treatment on the other hand is now also regularly used to promote hair re-growth. PRP is annon-surgical procedure that can offer promising results to those patients who are ideal candidates.

Here, at our hair loss clinic in Birmingham, patients are regularly undergoing PRP treatment for hair loss.

Hair Transplants

Hair transplant surgery is a procedure that allows our doctors to implant donor hair follicles into the areas that has experienced significant thinning or hair loss. This can be done either via FUT or using FUE extraction methods.

These hair follicles are implanted around the scalp to fill in a thinning hair areas. It can take 10 months for full hair transplant results to take effect, but once transplanted follicles take root, they will restore thickness and volume to give patients a naturally full head of hair. Ideal candidates for hair transplant surgery are those who are suffering with advanced hair loss and in those cases where hair follicles are dead.

PRP therapy

PRP (patelet-rich plasma) therapy, is a newer technique in the field of hair loss treatment. Platelet-rich plasma treatment for hair loss has proven effective in many cases in stimulating dormant hair follicles, for tissue growth and increasing healing time for patients suffering from a wound or injury. Evernor PRP Treatment is being used to stimulate dormant hair cells so that they stimulate hair re-growth. PRP is also a non-surgical approach, which makes it a great option for patients who are not keen to undergo hair transplant surgery or are poor candidates for hair transplant surgery.

During a PRP treatment, doctors will take a sample of the patient’s blood. Using a centrifuge, the blood is then separated and platelets are harvested. Collected platelets are mixed in with extracted plasma to create platelet-rich plasma. After creating the PRP, we numb the patient’s scalp to make the procedure more comfortable. PRP injections are then strategically placed around the scalp.

Within a few months, patients should begin to notice an improvement in hair quality and volume. 10-12 months patients should expect full result. While PRP therapy is a great revelation in hair loss treatment, patients should consider the following:

PRP therapy is likely to require multiple rounds of treatment and may need to be repeated infrequently to maintain full hair growth results PRP therapy is appropriate for thinning hair, but is not likely to be effective for patients with significant hair loss. When not appropriate as a single treatment, PRP therapy can be used to enhance the results of hair transplant surgery.

Final note:

Catch it early and aim to avoid surgery!
