How effective is PRP therapy for Hair Loss Treatment?

Updated: Mar 29

As we all know the treatment of hair loss can be difficult. But we know and understand that there are treatments capable of managing hair loss more effectively than ever before. At Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, Adam Whatley and his team have specialist hair loss clinics in Birmingham and Solihull that can help hair loss suffers with the latest medical treatments. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy has grown hugely in popularity over the years due to the successful treatment outcomes it has been providing for many different types of hair loss and we are proud to offer it at our hair loss clinics in Birmingham and Solihull.

How effective is PRP therapy for Hair Loss Treatment?

What is PRP Therapy

PRP therapy uses micro injections of a high concentrated protein growth factors that are use to stimulate hair regrowth and reinvigorate dormant hair follicles. PRP for hair loss treatment, involves taking a small amount of your own blood to then harvest your platelets for treatment. The centrifuge is used to separate the plasma from the blood cells, creating a concentrated solution biological of growth factors. Then using precise injections, Mr Adam Whatley then administers the PRP to the thinning hair areas of the scalp, where it is then used to stimulate ageing and dying hair follicles, hereby promoting hair regrowth in the treated area, think of it has a fertiliser.

How does PRP therapy work for hair loss?

PRP therapy works by targeting follicles that are dying or inactive. There are many factors which causes hair loss, the main of which are - ageing, genetics and hormonal imbalances. These factors will often affect the natural hair growth cycle. With a direct infusion of rich biological growth factors and nutrients from PRP, dying hair follicles that have slowed down their growth or have stopped producing hair altogether are rejuvenated and begin growing thicker, denser hair, ultimately reducing hair loss and providing better coverage.

PRP therapy has very high success rates for ideal candidates.

PRP therapy has been used in general medicine for over a decade but is relatively new to the hair loss scene and more research coming as it takes time. However, preliminary research and the most clinical studies, have estimated that over 85% of patients experience optimal results following PRP for hair loss treatments. New hair growth may be identified in as few as 1 session, but most patients benefit best from a couple of PRP treatments scheduled during 3-4 month period.

The Complete Approach to Hair Restoration

For most PRP treatments on their own can show favourable results, but for others, a broader approach to hair loss may be required. In order to experience lasting results, patients should also take advantage of other effective hair loss treatments in combination to PRP therapy. Here at Dynamic Regenerative Medicine we sometimes recommend a combination of foam minoxidil, blood stimulators and natural DHT blockers, we however do not routinely advise on Propecia medications due to unwanted side effects.

At Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, at our hair loss clinic in Birmingham and Solihull we will work with you to determine the best treatment plan using all effective and approved treatment options. The solution for hair loss lies in a comprehensive approach and will offer all of the resources you need to restore a full head of hair.

Hair Transplant Option

Some patients who are too far gone in their hair loss and are not good candidates for PRP treatment, may be interested in alternate hair loss solutions. If this is the case then hair transplants may be the answer. At Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, we have trusted partners that offer high quality and affordable hair transplant surgery using follicular unit extraction (FUE) methods in order to provide options for patients with varying needs. However, it should be noted that regularly combination of PRP treatment following on from your hair transplant surgery is also needed to accelerate new hair growth in transplanted follicles and to increase hair density in donor sites prior to the procedure. Plus it likely that even following a hair transplant, you are likely to lose the surrounding hair over time, PRP can reduce these chances. But the take home message is to ACT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.
