Have you had hair transplant surgery recently and wondering on how you can get the best result possible?
At our Hair Loss Clinics in Birmingham and Warwickshire we have been performing PRP treatment for various different types of hair loss and after hair transplant surgery for over 10 years and are thrilled to see the fantastic success rates. Below we would like to give you some basic information into why, along with a new November 2024 Comparison Study into the effects.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injection therapy is commonly used to enhance the success rate of hair transplants due to its biological regenerative and growth-promoting properties. So below, we would like to give you some information in regards to why this treatment is commonly used within standard practice and has been over the past 10 years.
PRP Is Used To Improve Healing
Accelerates Wound Healing
PRP is rich in bioactive growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). These biological growth factors naturally promote faster healing of the donor and recipient sites post-transplant.
PRP Is Used To Reduce Inflammation
PRP reduces inflammation at the transplant site, leading to quicker recovery and less discomfort.
PRP Is Used To Stimulate Hair Follicle Growth
Stimulation of Dormant Hair Follicles
PRP stimulates hair follicles that may be in a resting phase (telogen), encouraging them to enter the active growth phase (anagen).
Improves Hair Density
It can improve the survival rate of transplanted follicles and boost the thickness and density of existing hair. Preserving and maintaining your existing care is absolutely crucial for long-term satisfaction.
PRP Treatment Improves Hair Graft Survival
Nutrient Supply
PRP enhances the blood supply to the transplanted grafts, ensuring they receive adequate oxygen and nutrients for optimal growth.
Reduces Shedding
It can minimise the initial shock loss (temporary shedding of transplanted hair) often seen after a hair transplant.
PRP Strengthens Scalp Health
Improved Scalp Environment
PRP can enhance the overall scalp health by promoting collagen production and increasing elasticity, making it more conducive for hair growth.
Reduces Scarring
Its regenerative properties can help minimise scarring in the donor area.
Procedure in Hair Transplant Context
PRP is a very quick and easy, safe treatment that is typically injected into the scalp with a tiny micro needle either before the transplant to improve the scalp condition and prepare it for surgery or during the transplant to bathe the grafts in PRP for enhanced survival. A course of PRP is then most recently done post-transplant to accelerate healing and stimulate hair growth in both transplanted and existing hair.
We know from fast clinical experience here at our Hair Loss Clinic at Birmingham that integrating PRP therapy with hair transplants, patients often experience better growth results, reduced recovery time, and overall improved satisfaction with the procedure.
Below is a recent November 2024 Prospective and Comparative Study to Explore the Effects of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in Hair Transplantation for Patients With Androgenetic Alopecia
Traditionally, treatment for male and female pattern hair loss has primarily involved the topical application of minoxidil in conjunction with oral finasteride or spironolactone. Recently, well over the past 10 years PRP therapy has emerged as a significant focus of research in the treatment of hair loss. The objective aims of this study looked to conduct a prospective, comparative clinical investigation to evaluate the therapeutic effects of combining PRP with minoxidil and finasteride/spironolactone as adjuncts to hair transplantation. The study went between August 2019 to December 2022.
The results demonstrated that following treatment, the experimental group demonstrated significantly improved follicle survival rates, follicle growth rates, and hair strength compared with the control group. They concluded that this prospective, comparative clinical study demonstrated that the application of PRP in conjunction with pharmacological support during and following the FUE hair transplant surgery for pattern hair loss resulted in improved follicle survival rates, hair growth rates, and hair strength.
PRP injection therapy is the most popular treatment we do here at our Birmingham and Warwickshire clinics. We have done many thousands of treatments and apply this popular natural biological treatment to many different sources of practice, one being within musculoskeletal medicine.
