Scar Treatment and Stretch Marks

At Dynamic Regenerative Medicine, we use platelet rich plasma (PRP) in combination with micro-needling treatment for those wanting to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

PRP treatment involves the extraction of platelets from the patient's own blood, then using these platelets to stimulate and regenerate damaged tissues via the effective use of bio-active protein growth factors. This also creates new blood vessels in the area of tissue damage which then contributes to the improved texture and appearance of the skin.

Alongside our PRP treatment, we use advanced medical skin-needling for patients looking to reduce the appearance of superficial scars and stretch marks. The micro-needling procedure creates controlled, micro punctures in the surface of the skin to promote and encouraging the body’s own healing mechanisms to work - ultimately rejuvenating and repairing the skin. As the natural production of new collagen and elastin are stimulated, this then works to reduce or get rid of nearby wrinkles, scars or stretch marks.

Both PRP and micro needling are natural and safe ways to stimulate the renewal of the skin and to make it smoother, brighter, and healthier.

Which areas can PRP and Micro-needling treat?

PRP can be used in a wide variety of areas to stimulate natural tissue healing processes, specifically and cosmetically relevant to damaged skin including scars like acne scars and stretch marks for example. Whilst we specifically offer these treatments to help our patients improve the appearance if their skin, they can also be used for anti-ageing treatments, examples being for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, sun-damaged skin and in the rejuvenation of hands and chest area.

What do the treatments involve?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP treatment for scars and/or stretch marks is quick and easy. A small quantity blood is taken from your arm and then the contents are separated by a centrifuge. Platelets are contained within the plasma, and then are used ready to be injected in the target areas. Once injected, the platelets release bioactive protein growth factors which stimulate the body's healing process. As the platelets and growth factors work in the scar tissue, the body begins to create new, healthy collagen tissue with a rich blood supply, a process which can take several weeks, as a natural healing process also would. The procedure is usually completed within an 30-45 minutes, but the treatments only takes 5-10 minutes. Patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately afterwards with no complications, wounds or soreness.

Microneedling

Microneedling treatment utilises sterile medical needles which Dynamic Regenerative Medicine use a Dermaroller™ which is a medical device. These are fine needles will placed wherever the treatment is needed, and each penetrates the dermis of the skin and then closes rapidly, enabling the skin to recover in the quickest possible time. Before the treatment, we apply a topical anaesthetic to ensure your treatment comfort, and patients normally state that they feel no pain or mild discomfort during the treatment as a result.

The penetration of the skin causes the skin to naturally regenerate and produce new collagen cells in the skin's dermis layer. Over a period of time, new collagen is formed and skin cells produced, which new blood supply. The skin rejuvenating impact of this healing process can take up to 6 weeks to become fully visible, but in the case of scars and stretch marks, will have permanent effects.

Are there any side effects?

PRP treatment is using only cells from the patient's own body, therefore side effects and adverse reactions are highly uncommon. It is possible that there will be some minor bruising and/or swelling at the site of the injection, but we try to keep this to an absolute minimum.

The only likely side effects patients experience with micro-needling are a temporary skin reddening which lasts a couple of hours post treatment.

Infection is a risk with any injection treatment, but this again is very rare. Extra precautions and thorough hygiene and the prevention of infection.
