Comparison of Functional Outcome of Single Vs Multiple Platelet-Rich Plasma PRP Joint Injection Treatments for Early Osteoarthritis. June 2023.
Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of pain and disability and has huge impacts on quality of life. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has be shown to be a a promising treatment for various musculoskeletal conditions, and has been shown to have promising results.
This study looked to determine whether a single joint platelet-rich plasma injection has better outcomes when compared with multiple injections for early stages of OA of the knee at the sixth week, third month, and sixth month.
It was identified in the study that multiple PRP injections had a greater response to pain reduction when compared to single PRP injections, according to the pain and function score. Conclusioning that single PRP injections have a lower pain score than multiple PRP injections until three months of follow-up. Multiple PRP injections had a higher reduction in the intensity of pain when compared to single PRP injections.
